Our Barrecore Method

Barrecore is an unusually effective and efficient way to exercise your entire body. In fact, the method has been proven to safely and noticeably sculpt the entire body in just a few weeks.

Compared to many other fitness regimes, Barrecore is focused on using mainly your own body weight for isometric and eccentric movements that strengthen and also lengthen your muscles. Our classes contain elements of ballet, yoga and pilates - but are as tough as a spinning or bootcamp session. The experience is very different though, and your muscles will work in a very unusual way.

For instance, you’re probably not going to sweat a whole lot during your Barrecore class. Instead, the method focuses on exhausting your muscles with intelligent movements that bring your muscles into a "shake". It is here that you will notice your muscles start to fatigue, and where you will improve your strength and transform your physique - so it’s important to hold the positions for as long as you can and embrace the shake.

This high intensity but low impact way of working your body (called HILIT, as opposed to HIIT) means that we have clients of all ages, genders, fitness levels and shapes - even clients who are injured, prenatal and postnatal.

The Results

Our clients rave about the quick physical transformations and long lasting effects. Your muscles will be working hard and you will feel stronger, but you won't bulk - you will sculpt in a lean way.

The first thing clients tend to notice is increased general energy and strength, a perkier bum and a flatter stomach. Long-term they experience an overall improvement in well-being as well as longer, leaner muscles, and a sculpting physique even in those hard-to-reach places.

Above all, Barrecore will help you feel strong and confident in your own body.

The Structure Of A Barrecore Class

Our classes begin with a fast-paced warm-up followed by full-body barre and floor work incorporating various props and weights, and ends with stretches and a final relaxation. Keep your movements in class as small as possible - they should hardly be visible. This will work deeper in the your muscles and target areas you have probably never worked before! And don't forget to smile! It will make everything seem better and feel like less effort. Plus you'll release endorphins and serotonin! Our teachers are on hand to guide you through every step so don't be nervous - you'll do great!

- The first part of your class, the warm up, will engage your mind with every major muscle group, increase your heart rate and help you to start focusing on your breath.

- By working on your thighs next, we get your heart rate up further, and push you straight into the calorie burning zone. As tough as it may be, don’t give up! When your quads are strong and lean, your body will burn calories around the clock and not just when you’re working out.

- Next is the seat section which focuses on your glutes, hamstrings and back body and will often include inner and outer thigh work too. A "lifted seat" or "perkier bum" is one of the first things our clients notice after being at the barre regularly.

- The following abdominal section is a killer - but if you give it your all, you’ll see results fast. Not only does a flat tummy look great, but having a strong core provides a sturdy support for your body, improves your posture and pulls in your waistline. Strengthening your core will also help with the flexibility, mobility and general health of your spine.

- The savasana at the end of class gives you time to rejuvenate the body, mind and spirit. The breath deepens, and the stress of the day and all the hard work you put in throughout class is released. It gives you a chance to reflect on your workout, think about areas of improvement and it’s the time to have one last stretch of the body.

There is also stretching throughout the class, which helps lengthen your muscles tissue, for long and lean muscles. Stretching also improves your range of motion and flexibility. The more you stretch, the more flexible you’ll become and the smoother and larger your barre movements will be. Stretching also wards off soreness after a tough Barrecore workout.

Core Elements Of The Barrecore Method

An "isometric contraction" is one where neither the joint angle nor the length of the muscle changes during muscular contraction. It’s difficult to visualise but this static point is the sweet spot of calorie burning. The more you contract the muscle and hold it there, the more calories you will burn as it’s that stillness we so often speak of, that produces results. A study by The Journal For Applied Research proved that doing isometric exercise for 6 minutes would be the equivalent muscle work of 30-35 minutes of gym work on commercial weight-lifting equipment!

An "eccentric contraction" is the lengthening phase of the contraction. By lengthening a muscle, we effectively work the muscles to fatigue and create that long, lean look. The two contractions, isometric and eccentric, working against each other, lengthen and sculpt the muscle.

When your body gets into "the shake" - and starts shaking throughout your workout - it means you’ve hit that sweet spot! Your muscles are tearing (don’t panic, these are tiny, microscopic tears) and then more muscle fibres are created as these little tears heal to create toned, lean muscles.

We use "active stretches", where you would normally rest in a HIIT workout.

Our Teachers Go Through 200 Hours Of Training

All Barrecore classes are led by our expert teachers who undergo a minimum of 200 hours of intensive barre training over a two and a half month training period - before being formally tested and qualifying.

They Are There To Help You Find The Right Technique

Our teachers will give hands on adjustments throughout class to ensure you’re getting the most out of every exercise. They also provide detailed education relating to the moves being undertaken and the benefits of those on the body, as well as explaining where you should be feeling muscle burn. Technique is key in barre fitness so getting correct positioning from the start will help your confidence, progression and ultimately ensure you see quicker results.

They Will Help You Modify Each Movement For Higher Or Lower Intensity

Modifications are given for every exercise, so you can choose whether to take a less strenuous or more advanced route. Should you have any concerns or questions, teachers are always happy to chat before or after class, just ask.

Barrecore was founded in London in 2011 by celebrity trainer Niki Rein. Here's the story of Barrecore, from Niki herself:

I have always been a very active person and enjoyed exercise. Since I was a child, I loved sports and started out playing football. After that, I moved on to weight training and aerobics, which I did during my college years, but nothing seemed quite right. I am very athletic and had a bit of a ‘bulky’ rather than a ‘lean physique’, so I was constantly looking for the perfect workout that would strengthen and challenge my body, without the dreaded bulk. I noticed that dancer’s bodies moved in a way mine couldn’t and I have always admired the strong slender bodies of dancers, so I began to develop and teach dance-inspired barre classes for private clients, and quickly realised that a combination of multiple workout techniques finally delivered the results I had always been looking for.

In 2009 I moved over to the UK, and created a class called ‘barrecore’ for some of my private training clients. The response was overwhelming. One class a week turned into ten, without even advertising, in what seemed like no time at all. It became apparent that I needed a larger studio so we opened the Chelsea studio in 2011 - the first boutique barre fitness studio in the UK.

Since then, Barrecore has grown into one of the UK’s most well known fitness brands, with 12 thriving studios across prime locations in the UK, as well as online workouts in the form of Live Classes and On Demand Classes that are taught to clients all around the world!

We truly pride ourselves on the quality of our classes and the expertise of our instructors. We have nearly 100 incredibly well trained and knowledgeable teachers, and they have all undergone a rigorous selection process and 200 hours of training.

Barrecore is about enjoying yourself in a friendly, buzzing environment where you'll be welcomed by name as soon as we get to know you. I am very proud of our warm and friendly studios, and that we transform bodies rapidly!

I hope to see you in the studio soon!
