What is Barrecore?

Barrecore is a ballet inspired workout that uses your own bodyweight as resistance. Our barre classes are designed to work your entire body – creating longer and toned muscles, reducing body fat and improving your posture and alignment.

Focusing on tiny isometrics movements and the integration of high-intensity, low-impact moves with static stretches, every major muscle group is given an effective workout to increase strength and flexibility whilst also creating lasting change in your body.

All Barrecore instructors undergo a rigorous training programme before they are qualified to teach, making them experts in their field. Expect hands-on modifications during class to ensure you’re getting the most out of every move, as well as a running commentary letting you know the benefits of each move and where you should be feeling muscle burn.

The Barrecore Method

Barrecore is an effective and efficient way to exercise your entire body. In fact, our barre workout method has been proven to safely and noticeably sculpt the entire body in just a few weeks.

Our classes contain elements of ballet, yoga, and pilates - but are as tough as a spinning or bootcamp session, and your muscles will work in a very unusual way. For instance, you’re probably not going to sweat a whole lot during your Barrecore class. Instead, the method focuses on exhausting your muscles with intelligent movements that bring your muscles into a "shake". It is here that you will notice your muscles start to fatigue, and where you will improve your strength and transform your physique - so it’s important to hold the positions for as long as you can and embrace the shake.

This high intensity but low impact way of working your body (called HILIT, as opposed to HIIT) means that we have clients of all ages, genders, fitness levels, shapes, and abilities - even clients who are injured, prenatal and postnatal.

Core Elements Of The Barrecore Method

An "isometric contraction" is one where neither the joint angle nor the length of the muscle changes during muscular contraction. It’s difficult to visualise but this static point is the sweet spot of calorie burning. The more you contract the muscle and hold it there, the more calories you will burn as it’s that stillness we so often speak of, that produces results. A study by The Journal For Applied Research proved that doing isometric exercise for 6 minutes would be the equivalent muscle work of 30-35 minutes of gym work on commercial weight-lifting equipment!

An "eccentric contraction" is the lengthening phase of the contraction. By lengthening a muscle, we effectively work the muscles to fatigue and create that long, lean look. The two contractions, isometric and eccentric, working against each other, lengthen and sculpt the muscle.

When your body gets into "the shake" - and starts shaking throughout your workout - it means you’ve hit that sweet spot! Your muscles are tearing (don’t panic, these are tiny, microscopic tears) and then more muscle fibres are created as these little tears heal to create toned, lean muscles.

We use "active stretches", where you would normally rest in a HIIT workout.

Barrecore Results

If practised regularly the Barrecore method can bring about quick physical transformations and long-lasting effects. The first thing clients tend to notice is increased general energy and strength, a perkier bum, and a flatter stomach. Long-term they experience an overall improvement in well-being as well as longer, leaner muscles, and a sculpting physique even in those hard-to-reach places.

By using mainly your own body weight for isometric and eccentric movements that strengthen and also lengthen your muscles, we ensure that you won't bulk - but rather sculpt in a lean way.

They also provide detailed education relating to the moves being undertaken and the benefits of those on the body, as well as explaining where you should be feeling muscle burn. Technique is key in barre fitness so getting correct positioning from the start will help your confidence, progression and ultimately ensure you see quicker results.

They Will Help You Modify Each Movement For Higher Or Lower Intensity

Modifications are given for every exercise, so you can choose whether to take a less strenuous or more advanced route. Should you have any concerns or questions, teachers are always happy to chat before or after class, just ask.
