Why is Barrecore Good for the Body?

Mental benefits of a barre class

Mental benefits DURING a barre class

The isometric movements we use in Barrecore are so small that they bring a new level of awareness to the body that you wouldn't get in a regular strength workout. Muscles which you may not even know you have are activated and used in Barrecore classes, strengthening your mind-body connection as you workout. For example, our instructors use very visual descriptions when explaining an exercise, such as 'imagine you're carrying a tray of Champagne glasses on your back, it needs to be as flat as possible so do a tiny tuck of your pelvis" making you very aware of the shape of your spine and your alignment.

Mental benefits AFTER a barre class

Barrecore, like any other exercise, releases chemicals called endorphins. The endorphins then interact with the receptors in your brain that reduce your perception of pain and trigger a positive feeling in the body, similar to that of morphine. This is why we often refer to the euphoric feeling you feel after a workout is called a ‘runner's high.'

So, if you’re feeling stressed, have post-holiday blues, are feeling a little worse for wear from the night before, or a have lot on your plate at work, a Barrecore class will help you burn off that negative energy, feel much better about yourself and give you a more positive outlook.

During Barrecore classes you shake, a lot - don’t be alarmed. Shaking legs, abs and arms is a good thing, it shows your working the right muscles and hard. The more you shake the more calories you burn so it’s important to hold the positions for as long as you can and well and truly embrace the shake.

You’re probably not going to experience a whole lot of sweating during your Barrecore class, which is why it’s so convenient to squeeze in a class before work or in your lunch break. It’s a low impact class with a high number of isometric movements which means it’s tough but you feel the burn in a different way to a hot sweaty spinning session for example.

So what can you expect to see change in your body after you’ve been to a few classes?

Longer, leaner muscles is one of the most noticeable changes. Barrecore lengthens your muscle to give you that much desired dancers aesthetic. A lot of our clients report the first thing they notice is a perkier bum, they say it's more lifted and firmer as well as a flatter tummy. Barrecore helps tucks everything in and tones you in all those hard to reach places.

Cosmopolitan Journalist, Lauren Smith, who did Barrecore classes for six weeks reported she felt more ‘cinched in and less bloated.' Additionally, even after overindulging during the Christmas period, she said she didn’t gain weight or feel her body change for the worst - "these were long lasting results."
