Getting Back to Barre: Tips for Rejoining After a Break

James Falls

Stepping back into your Barrecore routine after a hiatus? Welcome back! We know that returning to any fitness regimen can feel a bit daunting, but don’t worrywe’ve got your back (and your glutes, and your abs). Here are some practical tips to help you ease back into the barre groove and rediscover the joy of the shake.

Ease in with the essentials

Tempting as it is to jump straight back into your most challenging class, starting with a lower-impact option like BarreFORM can help you rebuild your foundation. You’ll reawaken those small (but mighty) muscles, re-familiarise yourself with technique, and give your body time to readjust safely and effectively.

Honour where you’re at

Some soreness is part of the barre magic (hello, shake), but pain is a signal to pause. Go at your own pace. Take breaks. Modify where needed. Progress is never linear, and there’s no prize for pushing through discomfort that doesn’t feel right.

Set realistic goals

If it’s been a while, your strength, stamina or flexibility might feel differentand that’s okay. Instead of fixating on where you were, focus on where you are now. Celebrate small wins and set goals that feel achievable. Progress follows consistency, not perfection.

Mix it up

From sweatier sessions like BarreSWEAT to more restorative ones like BarreRESTORE, there’s real value in variety. Switching up your classes not only keeps things fresh, but it also helps you build strength, recover properly, and stay engaged.

Lean into the community

Returning to class can feel a little intimidating but trust us, you’re not the only one finding your way back. Say hi to your instructor. Chat to someone in the changing room. The Barrecore community is warm, welcoming, and always here to lift you up (figuratively, of coursewe’re all about that core strength).

Book a private session

Want a little one-on-one time to rebuild your confidence or focus on form? Our private sessions are a great way to get tailored guidance and ease back in with expert support. Think of it as a gentle reset button.

Be kind to yourself

Some days will feel better than others. That’s just part of the process. Speak to yourself with the same compassion you’d offer a friend. You showed up. You moved your body. That’s more than enough.

Keep showing up

Your body remembers. With a little consistency, you’ll be surprised how quickly things come back and how much stronger you can become. Rebuilding takes time, but every class gets you one step closer to feeling your best again.

Ready to return to the barre? We’ll meet you there, with expert instructors, a supportive community, and the kind of workout that transforms you from the inside out. Book your next class today and let’s get you feeling strong again.

Barrecore Chelsea is moving

We’re officially moving to Triyoga Chelsea (372 King’s Road) — just a 10-minute walk from our previous location.

From 3rd May, all Barrecore Chelsea classes will run in a fresh, refined setting. You’ll find the same signature method, expert instruction, and results-led classes – just in a beautiful new space that reflects the strength of our community.

You’ll still book your classes as usual through the United Fitness app.
